The former have an irregular shape usually like a potato whereas the latter is completely round. This irregular shape of the freshwater pearl which can also be compared to the oval shape of an egg makes it a bit economical but again with the usage of technological tools some of the pearls can be shaped into having a pure rounded shape. They are mostly used for making jewelry as they are hugely popular among people because they are a bit cheaper.
